What a day and what a job! Thanks to the Madill Church Preservation Society and the work they put in. It looks good for another 100 years. And a great day for the opening.

Never paid much attention to the old church until I brought my future wife to town. Where to go and what to show? Then remembered the stories told by my Grandfather about the old church. About the family having a hand in its construction. So it became a regular touch point when other of her relatives and friends visited from the old country.

It was interesting listening to the words of some of our local politicians. The church was abandon and governments wanted nothing to do with an obviously expensive and time consuming project. The town wanted no part of the old building. Everybody was so sorry, but were perfectly okay with one of the last, if not the last, square timber church becoming so much smoke and ash.

But a group formed to make sure that never happened. I know it was a long haul and with their hands out for help where and when they could get it, they got the job done! Included in all that was some church help, some government help and a lot of help from the community at large.

I was at a meeting a few years ago when Don McCormick addressed the group and stated that Huntsville had always been a “get it done” town. It sure was. The fabulous work done on this old church proves that it still can be. But it seems the people have to do it.

My many thanks to the Madill Church Preservation Society.

Congratulations to all those who contributed to this most worthwhile project. Thankfully our forefathers chose a location for the church on a very well draining site which contributed to the preservation of this building.
I am looking forward to seeing the fully restored church this morning!!!
