Love art? Be sure to take the self-guided HfA Art Crawl

The Huntsville Festival of the Arts has created a fun, free, COVID-safe event that supports both artists and local businesses, and which can be enjoyed all month long.

The Art Crawl, created in partnership with the Downtown Huntsville BIA and the Huntsville Municipal Accommodation Tax Association, features 50 local artists in 27 different locations, most of them downtown.

“The crawl is a really fun adventure and experience that will get people out as we emerge from lockdown,” said Dan Watson, HfA executive director. “Not only will the community people able to take in some beautiful art but they can support our stores as well.”

The self-guided tour runs until the end of June but could potentially be extended into July.

Each artist has been paired with a local business, which receives a commission for any sales of the artwork.

“We want to help support money going back into the artists’ pockets but also our downtown businesses because they have had a tough year with COVID and the construction,” said Watson.

There may be a connection between the art and the business, too.

For example, as nature-inspired artist Stephanie Aykroyd utilizes nut oils and other earth-based materials to create her art, the perfect pairing for her was with Sustain Eco Store.

Pick up a map and passport at downtown businesses, and collect stamps as you visit each location. Then take your passport to Pharmasave with at least five stamps to be entered to win a surprise grand prize package. The first 30 submissions will also receive $25 in downtown dollars.
