The Huntsville Community Choir Welcomes New Director
When the Huntsville Community Choir begins its 28th season on Tuesday, September 13 at 7:00 pm in the Huntsville High School (HHS) music room, there will be a new leader at the helm. The choir is pleased to announce that Mr. Louis Tusz will once again be conducting the choir. Once again meaning that Louis was the founding Director of the Choir at its inception in 1989. He conducted the choir previously from 1989 to 1996.
Louis comes back to the choir with a rich composition of skills and talents, both as a musician, a singer and as a conductor of groups. He holds a BMus (Honors) from the University of Western Ontario, a BEd from the University of Toronto and a MEd from Nipissing University. He has taught music at Huntsville High School since 1988 and is currently the Head of the Performing Arts Department there. He is a Certified Teacher as well as a teacher of English and Music.
As an undergraduate, Louis was a voice major and was privileged to study choral conducting under Derel Johnson, a renowned choral director and professor.
Louis has and continues to bring a rich development of music knowledge to the community, through his teaching at the high school as well as his involvement in various other projects in Huntsville, including participation in the Northern Blues Review, organizer and founder of The Song Project and participant in the newly formed Loft Singers, just to mention a few.
The choir looks forward to Louis’s commencement and invites all those who like to sing, regardless of skill level or age (minimum of high school age and up), to come and join this non-profit, non-auditioning group and enjoy the rich array of themes this music has to offer. New members are free to just come out on the 13th, or call John at 636-7649 for more information.

It’s always wonderful to hear from you Betty. Please wish Ches a very happy 90th birthday from all us of at Doppler. Best wishes to you both.
Wonderful news Louis for the Choir and for the Town of Huntsville. We were fortunate to have attended some of the choir’s performances in the early days when you were director and we cottaged on Rebecca Lake. Now living in St. Catharines because of the decline in Ches’ health, we are no longer able to attend, but know you will set high standards for the choir. Most people in Huntsville likely know that Louis and Gail have one of the finest families to be found anywhere – four intelligent, caring, wonderful young people – can’t say enough good things about them. They are a huge credit to their parents! Ches celebrates his 90th birthday Monday, an afternoon reception here today with family present from as far away as New Zealand, and praise the Lord, his health is much improved in the past 3 weeks. Thank you Liz for the Doppler, it keeps us current on what is happening in Huntsville, which we still consider “Home”!
