There were streets full of water this week in Jacksonville; Florida; in late December two Huntsville area lacrosse players will be making a return visit there to compete in the Brogden Cup championship.
They were members of Team Ontario that won the First Nations Trophy National Under-18 Men’s Field Lacrosse championship in Saskatoon last weekend, qualifying for the international tournament.
For Jason Knox and Caleb Creasor it marked the second time they have won this championship. It was also the second time both were named to the all-star team. Creasor was also picked as the 2017 all-Canadian team goaltender.
“It’s a great honour being placed on the all-star team and I had a really great time in Saskatoon and played some great lacrosse,” said Knox. “I’m really excited to go down to the Brogden Cup again this year. I had a lot of fun last year and am looking forward to the tournament.”
Creasor is also excited about the turn of events.
“I was really taken by surprise,” he said. “It’s such a big honour to be recognized at that event with so many good lacrosse players.”
Team Ontario went undefeated in the Canadian championship winning games against Manitoba, Saskatchewan, B.C. and Alberta in the round robin schedule. They met B.C. again the final and won 17-13.
The top Canadian team will play the best American team in the under-19 division at the Brogden Cup.

“It’s really important especially since it’s played in a national game style where the quarters are longer and the jerseys have Canada’s flag on it,” said Creasor. “It gives us as players experience in big time games which is priceless.”
Both Knox and Creasor are looking forward to the tournament which also draws scouts from American schools that have a lacrosse program.
