Today I drove from Metro to Mobile Marine and back on the main street early in the afternoon.
When I arrived back at Metro my car had dense splattering on both sides and up the back of brown liquid.
When I tried later to rinse it off, I discovered that it would not come off with water, car wash soap, dish soap or Fantastic. I am very concerned that I may wind up having to have the entire car repainted.
I cannot be the only one – there must be several hundred others who drove that stretch of Muskoka Rd 3 with similar results. I hope that someone can determine what happened and who was responsible.

the letter I got from the legal/claims department of Miller Paving, emphasizes our responsibility to get the condition fixed as soon as possible. So I am going ahead with necessary detailing work on Friday and will submit my form and copy of invoice (paid). The estimate is around $300. We will await response.
I have some of the stuff on both sides of my car! I sent a claim into Miller group and received a reply the next day with a claim form to fill out,I took it to my insurance and they filled it out and sent it back,in less than a day I received a response asking for an estimate to repair the damage, sent it in on Friday but haven’t heard back yet. But with all the claims going in I feel likely it will take a few days to get back to me.
A friend and I got caught on that spill on Main Street in Huntsville on Sept 25.
We were riding motorcycles, our brakes failed, then the wheels of my bike seized and two strong men lifted my bike from the road to the sidewalk. Anyone saw that?
We have emailed Miller group and will put a claim for detailing and brake inspection/repairs. Their legal response includes a form to complete with bills attached. Hopefully they will act responsibly and settle without giving us more trouble than we already went through.
Good luck to all!
Yes!
I’ve been trying to figure out what it is and how to remove it.
I was able to clean my wheel rims with soapy warm water and a scrub pad.
So far no success with the painted body. Going see what Miller says, while I look to a car detailer who might know what do to.
Yes WD 40 also works but with a wire brush on the wheels, and a soft cloth on the paint. It will be many hours of work if we do it ourselves, so I will ask Colourworks what they recommend, and how much it would cost to have them do the work. I will post when I find out.

I had the same staining on my vehicle from Thursday on Main Street as they routed alot of vehicles right through the spill area.. Tried the Turtle Wax Max Cleaner with no results. Thanks to a very helpful staff member, Canadian Tire sells a spray cleaner for TAR and Insects. That removes the staining with alot of effort..
I have an appointment with Colorworks to give me an estimate to repair wheels and some paint areas. I think we should have some central registry for repair estimates and go after Miller with a lawyer.
I would be happy to co-ordinate this initiative.

The same thing happened to me and I was told by Jesse at Huntsville Road department that Miller paving has already a claims file in place. The email address is

Good luck, so far we haven’t had a reply.
We’ve taken our F150 to a Ford dealership and they are not able to clean. Our insurance company send us to a bodyshop , they think they may be able to clean it.
Yes my car has the same thing in it as well! I did drive that way all week!!
Go to Canadian tire and buy goof off, we had are truck covered in road paint and tar and nothing was removing it. Read about goof off online and bought it, it removed paint and tar with ease. It isn’t expensive and it will work.
Have the same issue! Reached out to Miller, have yet to hear back they don’t know “a time line to when anything can be fixed”
Yes ,our truck was sprayed all over with the stuff on Thurs Sept 25. I was driving down Main St. (the stretch between Yonge & Centre). I noticed the pavement was a reddish colour. Miller Construction is responsible for a spill(not sure what the product was.) Turtle Wax Powerfoam will clean the material off.
Sounds like tar residue to me. Try rubbing alcohol or a clay bar with clay lubricant and you should be able to get it off without wrecking your paint.
Yes my SUV is a message as well. I have taken WD40 to the rims haven’t tackled the paint. But no one seems to be coming forward with information as to who created this spill. The Town of Huntsville was cleaning it up.
I too encountered the same problem with the brown splattering down both sides, rear end & wheels. The problem looked just like heavy mud splattering. Put my car through a car wash…..with no results, then did a hand wash….still no results. My guess it was in fact Road Tar. Followed through by attending a local auto body repair for their opinion & was advised it was in fact Road Tar. Estimate forthcoming to deal with the issue; will follow up with another comment when received.
I know of no other companies or businesses that use road tar, other than the Town of Huntsville, who did some road work at Main St. & Yonge St. during the last week, closing down the intersection & redirecting traffic.
Anyone else with this problem?
