Hundreds of people gathered for the Remembrance Day ceremony at Huntsville’s cenotaph on November 11 to remember and thank the veterans in our community. The ceremony was followed by a service at the Legion and then a parade that followed Veterans Way, West Street S, Main Street E, River Street, Princess Street and Brunel Road before returning to the Legion.

There was a cold breeze that was blowing today and it seems more often then not a cold chill is always in the air on Remembrance Day. I am not sure if is the weather or my own imagination of the vacuum these brave souls left in the lives of their families. Freedom is something we so easily take for granted on a daily basis. It is great to see the large number of citizens of Huntsville who pay their respects on Remembrance Day by visiting the cenotaph and the Royal Canadian Legion in Huntsville. The work and dedication that the Legion members put in to make this Day a tribute of recognition for lives lost in defence of our freedoms is immense. They put as much effort into making Canada Day Celebrations a success, both events making us proud of Our Country, out Town and Our Women and Men in the Armed Forces. The Huntsville Legion has always been a great supporter of Huntsville in so many ways. LET US SHOW THEM how much we appreciate them by assisting them in their time of need. They need $60,000 to repair the flood damage they just had. They are still $40,000 short of this goal from what I hear. If you have enjoyed the support they have given many kids’ sports teams, free food on Canada Day or their dedication to their fallen comrades on Remembrance Day, please drop off a donation at the Legion so they may continue to serve our community with their pride and dedication to it. I am not a member but I am an appreciative supporter. I am asking you to be one also; every donation helps show our support.
