A landlord who called the police to tell them he was on his way to kill his tenants ended up in jail.
Appearing in a Bracebridge courtroom earlier this month, Lawrence Dorman of Muskoka Lakes Township pled guilty to failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking, uttering death threats, and careless driving.
Court heard Dorman was in a disagreement with tenants to whom he had been renting a trailer.
On May 8, 2023, the Bracebridge OPP received a call from Dorman saying he was fed up with his tenants not paying their rent and was on his way to “kill them all.” He told the officer that it was not a threat; it was a promise. He advised the OPP to bring body bags with them when they attended the scene.
The OPP then contacted the tenants and advised them of the threat. The tenants then barricaded themselves inside the residence.
The police were able to catch up with Dorman before he reached the residence. Officers detected alcohol on Dorman’s breath, and he was arrested under several charges.
Court heard Dorman has a previous criminal record.
He was sentenced to 48 days in jail, served in pre-trial custody, placed on probation for 12 months, and fined $1,000.
