Lakeland recognizes academic excellence with awards

Lakeland Networks and Lakeland Generation have recognized the academic excellence and dedication of five students from the Muskoka, Parry Sound, and Almaguin school districts with the Lakeland Networks Bursary Awards and the B. Ingram Excellence Award.

In its second year, the B. Ingram Excellence Award is in honour of Lakeland’s Manager of Operations, Bryan Ingram (1978-2024), a father, husband, and friend with a love for his family, community, and hydro generation. The B. Ingram Excellence Award of $5000 is given to a student who is entering into post-secondary education in Hydro Mechanics, Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or similar, with the goal of pursuing a career in the renewable energy field. This student must demonstrate a keen aptitude for learning and a desire to serve their community.

The award went to Mackenzie Devoe, a resident of Nobel, who is studying Mechanical Engineering at Ontario Tech University. Mackenzie aims to develop modern energy production techniques to make life more affordable and sustainable. As a volunteer firefighter with McDougall Station 410, Mackenzie has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service.

Lakeland is proud to offer this financial assistance as a testament to the academic achievements and promising futures of these exceptional young individuals.

Taylor Servos, Lakeland’s Chief People Officer, shared her thoughts on the awards: “We are deeply appreciative of the chance to invest in the future of our local youth. By supporting their educational journeys, we hope to lay the groundwork for these students to return and continue to contribute to their communities. We eagerly anticipate the incredible accomplishments they will achieve through their post-secondary studies.”

The Lakeland Networks Bursary Award recipients are as follows:

Lakeland encourages young people to attend post-secondary education upon graduation and to bring the skills they have learned back to their community. In support of this, each year Lakeland Networks provides 4 – $1500 bursaries to assist graduating high school students in pursuing post-secondary education.
