Lake association completes another successful cleanup

This August through September 15, volunteers and members of the Lake Vernon Association worked together to clean up the Ravenscliffe and Aspdin roads, from Hwy 11 out to Muskoka 45, on both sides of Lake Vernon.

Forty volunteers joined in teams to complete the task, which involved the extended cleanup of five public access points to the lake. Another popular swimming area near Hutchinson Beach was also cleaned up by boat!

Some of the items picked up along the roads include a cooler, filing boxes, a complete muffler assembly, and a discarded electric boat motor. Nearly 70 bags of assorted garbage were also picked up. Motorists driving by honked at the volunteers, expressing their gratitude. Scott Cameron stopped and gave a bottle of local maple syrup to one couple as a gesture of thanks.

Joining the program this year was a team from Nydock Pipefusion who cleaned a section from Bethune Road to the tracks on Aspdin Road.

The Lake Vernon Association wishes to thank Brad Payne and his crew from Nydock for their efforts! The LVA would also like to thank the many volunteers, both young and old, who helped out this year. Special thanks to Edmonds GMC for discarding the garbage and to Peter Smith Construction for supplying bags and gloves. Thanks also go to the businesses that supported the program by supplying prizes for the winners of our draw. These are Home Depot, Rolston’s  Home Hardware, Mill on Main, Sandhills Nursery, and Bickley Ford.

You can help out too! Just go to the LVA website and volunteer for next year’s program.

If you’re not part of the solution – you’re part of the problem.

Congratulations to the LVA volunteers for contributing to the solution… well done!
