From Muskoka Digital Archives, Jupps Sunoco on King William Street, between Fairy Avenue and Hanes Street. Huntsville, Ontario. Looking East. 1939-1958.

Jupp Motor Sales was constructed and operating by 1939, although owner Randall Jupp had already been running another garage since 1936 at the site where the CIBC bank stands today.

The Jupp Motor Sales property itself was once home to Huntsville’s first covered skating rink, built in 1906. Because the land was extremely swampy, Jupp had to truck in large amounts of fill before construction could begin. Once completed, local residents remarked on how dramatically the property had been transformed from what had long been considered an eyesore into a clean and attractive commercial site.

Jupp proudly described it as the best-looking garage between Toronto and North Bay.

In 1942, the building was expanded, and Jupp sold his original garage location. The dealership initially sold Ford vehicles until 1946, when it switched to Dodge and DeSoto automobiles. Jupp continued operating the dealership until 1958, when he sold the business to Austin McKee of Hamilton.

In addition to the dealership, Jupp also owned Muskoka Oil, which distributed Sunoco heating oil and gasoline. The company’s bulk storage tanks were located on Young Street, near the present-day site of Avery Park.

The Jupp Motor Sales building was demolished in the late 1980s and replaced with a strip mall. M&M Meats became the first business to open in the new development on May 11, 1990.

Great info about Jupp Motors, being a young fellow, I remember it as Parlland Motors, from around 1958 to around 1975, The Chev, GM garage moved to the south end of Huntsville
