Otters fans… it’s that time of year again!
The Huntsville Junior C Otters have formed their new bench for the 2019-2020 season with more additional players signed this week before their regular season begins.
Staff have signed three new Forwards: Brock Cooper from the Porcupine Gold Midget team, whose “asset is his skating,” says Otters coach Marc Gagnon; Adam Ostiopak of Coburg, a “speedy, talented forward who played in Minnesota last season” according to Gagnon; and Brad Wilson who played Midget for his local Barrie team. “Brad was impressive during camp and will bring a lot of speed upfront,” says Gagnon.
The Otters also signed Defencemen Clifford Edwards of the New Liskeard Cubs Midget AAA Club and David McGill of North Bay. “Both bring size and physical presence to the blue line,” said Gagnon.
In net, the Otters have signed local player Tye Miller as their starter goalie for the upcoming season. The Otters are also pleased to have Huntsville native Mitchell Jones back in an Otters uniform. New player Logan Woodrow of Orillia will round out the netminders as the Otter’s third goalie. Gagnon describes this season’s goaltending as “very solid” with these three in net.
Connor Small, a former Jr C Otter player, has been asked to join the team’s staff as an area scout. “He will be an important part to our staff in recruiting new future Otters,” said Gagnon.
Coach Gagnon and the Otters staff are excited and happy with the way the team is shaping up as the season begins. The team is on the road for their first game in Schomberg tonight, and will return to Huntsville for their season home-opener on Friday, September 13.
New this season, the Junior C Otters welcome the Huntsville Minor Hockey Association ambassadors program with two players joining the starting lineup on the ice during the national anthem.
Come and celebrate the start of the 2019-20 Junior C Otters season at the Don Lough Arena. Former Junior C Otters captain Jake McIntyre, who played over 150 games as an Otter, will kick things off with a ceremonial puck drop at 7:30 p.m. You Otter be there!
