It was a good feeling to have our hometown team back in Huntsville on Friday, January 20 and playing on the Don Lough ice for the first time in 2017. The Otters welcomed the Orillia Terriers and played an action-packed game with team plays, hits, goals and great defense.
The night started off with the Otters skating hard to defend their net with goalie #31 Mitchell Jones between the bars. The team fended off the Terriers for most of the first period until Orillia put one in the net at 15:27.
Going into the second, the Otters made a plan and it worked. They led the puck up the ice making secure passes which allowed #10 Cody Jones, assisted by Tyler Brown and Jack Armstrong, to sweep in front of the net and shoot to score only two minutes in, tying it up 1-1.
After the Otters goal, the Terriers stepped up their game and applied more pressure in the Otters end, sinking in four more goals along with five penalties for tripping, slashing and check from behind. Entering the third period with the score 1-5 for the Terriers, the Otters would not allow another goal in their end or net.
The loss came on the back of a tough start to the year with the Otters losing four of their last five games. While their sixth game of 2017 didn’t end in a win, our community always thinks of the Otters as winners and as our community team!

The Otters faced off against Schomberg last night (January 23) in a make-up game that saw our Junior C team come away with a much-needed 5-4 overtime win. Schomberg opened the scoring at 1:26 but Otter Brody Tracy, assisted by Tyler Brown, would reply just a few minutes later to tie it up at 4:57. A goal more for each team tied it up at 2-2 heading into the second.
Schomberg pulled ahead briefly in the second, only to see the Otters surge back with two goals by Jake McIntyre and Tyler Brown to end the period 4-3. Schomberg would tie it up with the only goal of the third to send the game into overtime.
It didn’t take long to see which team would come away with the victory – at just 0:27 into overtime, Otters Nathan Delarosbil, assisted by Cody Jones and Jake McIntyre, would score on the powerplay for the win.
Come and be part of the fans in the stands to see your Junior C Otters at home on Friday, January 27 at 8pm and on Sunday, January 29 at 2:30pm to wrap up the regular season. Bring it on!!!
