Jr C Hawks fire new coaching staff just weeks after season begins

The Huntsville Jr. C Hawks have fired their head coach and general manager, Don Monahan, and assistant coach Jordan Monahan. The father-son team had taken over the Hawks this season but only managed one win in their first eight games.

The decision was reached after a meeting of the Hawks’ Board of Directors, which voted to make the change to take the team in a different direction. Speculation is the new coach will be Karl Carnduff.

Don Monahan said he accepted the board’s decision.

“I’m okay with it,” he said on Wednesday, May 31. “I’m not the first coach nor will I be the last to be let go by a team. To my replacement I say good luck.

“Management just said they were moving forward and that they needed to change the direction of the team. They thanked us for our time and commitment.”

The Hawks are a young team this year, having lost six senior players from last year’s squad. It was a rebuilding year according to Monahan, and that will not change.
