Jason Knox continues Huntsville’s lacrosse legacy

After years of grinding for opportunity and recognition, Huntsville native Jason Knox has officially arrived as one of the National Lacrosse League’s elite offensive threats.

The Halifax Thunderbirds forward is coming off a breakout 2026 campaign that not only elevated his status within the organization but also helped drive Halifax to the NLL Finals in one of the franchise’s deepest playoff runs in recent memory.

For Knox, the season represented a major step forward in a career that has steadily built momentum since entering the league. After signing a one-year contract extension with the Thunderbirds in October 2025, the former Huntsville Hawks standout rewarded the club’s faith with his most productive professional season to date.

Knox became a consistent offensive force for Halifax, showcasing the quick release, finishing touch, and relentless work ethic that have long defined his game. But during the Thunderbirds’ playoff push, his offensive production reached another level.

He emerged as one of the NLL postseason’s most dangerous scorers, delivering timely goals and energizing performances that helped carry Halifax through a difficult playoff bracket and into the championship series.

The playoff surge cemented Knox’s reputation as a premier goal-scorer for the franchise and one of the league’s emerging stars.

For fans in Huntsville and across Muskoka, Knox’s rise has become a source of hometown pride. The grandson of legendary lacrosse figure Jack Bionda, Knox has continued a family legacy deeply rooted in the sport while carving out his own identity at the professional level.

His success has also highlighted the growing impact of Northern Ontario athletes in professional lacrosse, proving players from smaller communities can compete — and thrive — on the sport’s biggest stage.

At just the right moment in his career, Knox appears to be entering his prime.

With the confidence of a breakout season behind him and a Finals appearance now on his resume, expectations will only continue to rise heading into next season. For Halifax, Knox has become far more than a promising young forward — he is now one of the central pieces of the Thunderbirds’ championship aspirations moving forward.

In 2022, Knox was attending the Ohio State University when he was drafted fifth overall to the Panther City Lacrosse Club.  He received his undergraduate degree there. Presently, Jason is working from home for the summer and will return to Nipissing University in September to complete his second and final year of teacher’s college.

As for lacrosse, the future is looking bright for Knox.
