It’s Wayback Wednesday, sponsored by Pharmasave Huntsville!

Doppler readers love to see photos from Huntsville’s past. Images of Main Street and familiar faces are especially popular, so it’s no surprise that your five favourites posted in 2019 contain one of those elements (or both!)

This 1967 image (Canada’s centennial year) of a snowmobile parade drummed up some memories for Doppler readers. Here are a few of them:

Tracie Parrot: The driver of the first machine is my father Don Gower, my brother Jay Gower behind him, me with my mom Fran Gower in the sled. The next in line is Ted Keown.

Sandra Farnsworth: Year 1967… My uncle Don Gower and cousin Jay Gower in the first snowmobile, Aunt Fran and cousin Tracy in the first trailer, then Stan’s besty Ted Keown in the yellow snowmobile. Oh how I miss my uncle !!!! No one like him.

Ken Warner: My cousin Dana Collins and I were in it. I drove a 1967 Skidoo and he was on a sleigh as a trapper from 1867. Too much fun.

Gail Haight: Grant and Darcy were also in this parade. I believe it was the opening day for the Muskoka Winter Carnival.

Janet Boston: My father Pete Raback brought the first snow machines to town, wonderful memories!

This 1974 photo (source unknown) shows the former Empire Hotel, which burned down in 2009.

This image of the Huntsville wharf and the bridge crossing the Muskoka River (where the swing bridge is today) dates to 1898.

This mid-1990s photo of the then-Huntsville and Burk’s Falls Ambulance Service came to us courtesy of Muskoka Ambulance Communication Service Manager, Judy Moore. It elicited plenty of comments from Doppler readers who recognized the faces in this picture (and even some who were in the picture) and had high praise for the services they provided.

In this 1938 photo of Huntsville’s Main Street looking east you can see work being completed on the new swing bridge.

Last week we shared this photo with you:

Most Doppler readers had no trouble recognizing the incomparable Ray Porter as Santa’s helper in this undated photo.
