It’s Wayback Wednesday: Francis family

This week’s photo was shared with us by Doppler reader Tim Wilgress. Fred Francis, pictured front row, centre, in the above photo with members of his family in front of Francis House, was Huntsville’s first constable. According to Huntsville: With Spirit and Resolve by Susan Pryke, Francis received between $10-15 per year for that role.

Also in the photo is Fred’s daughter, Annie Wilgress (back row, left, in the black dress). Annie was the wife of George S. Wilgress whose law office was built down the hill from Francis House, adjacent to the swing bridge. In more recent years it has served as The Bookcase book store and Café Wilgress.

Tim is Fred’s great-great-grandson and Annie’s great-grandson. Thanks for sharing this photo, Tim!

Last week we shared this photo with you:

Last week, Huntsville stood in for a US town for the filming of Hallmark movie A Veteran’s Christmas, but it’s not the first time that has happened. The above photo of actors JoBeth Williams (left) and Kris Kristofferson is from a scene filmed at Huntsville’s Lions Lookout for the 1989 movie Coming Home.
