On August 29, Brunel Road from Veterans Way to North Mary Lake Road will be fully closed from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the run course. Local traffic will be permitted on North Mary Lake Road which will be partially closed from Brunel Road to Sam English Road during the same time period.
Motorists should exercise caution along Brunel Road south of North Mary Lake Road to Hwy 117 and Hwy 117 East to Dorset, as these roads will be partially closed to traffic for the bike course from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Town and District staff will monitor traffic flows along existing downtown detour routes before and during the race weekend as well as limiting side street parking along high-volume areas in the downtown core to keep traffic flowing and sightlines clear for pedestrians and vehicle traffic. The OPP will also be directing traffic at key intersections on race day. Detour signage will be in place.

Brenda,
This is an outdoor event run by experts. I’m still inside people’s houses daily for my employment, and I’m the only one wearing a mask 95% of the time, you want to discuss spread…. well that is far more likely to cause an issue. I’m fully vaccinated, but the mask is for the home owners protection, but mostly they don’t care to wear a mask and protect me.
Just great, a super spreader event nine days before school starts. Stupid! Residents should have a say in what events occur in our region. I guess a vote at the next municipal election is all the opinion we get.
I don’t wish to dismiss the concerns voiced by Alan Perry, but speaking only as a volunteer I can share that the numbers are usually 1200-1500 participants and this year the likelihood is about 900, virtually eliminated are the international participants. Those of us working the event we do the covid protocols, the participants as they start to come in today (Friday) will find 3 different protocol stages to go through. In packing their race kits we have included elements that are normally handed out post race but again, exercising good protocols they were packaged by us in advance. The committee team has done their homework, again as a volunteer representing Kiwanis and as a LOB Councillor I can tell you it is extremely well prepared and I am comfortable that they’re ready for a great race with protocols exceeding expectations.
Iron Man is too much to soon. The world is still dealing with a pandemic thats only getting worse. Good job again Huntsville government always thinking about the almighty dollar and not the safety of year round residents. Can we say super spreader ????
Welcome back Ironman Triathletes!
