About 1,100 athletes participated in the Ironman Muskoka 70.3 triathlon on Sunday as family, friends, volunteers and community residents cheered them on.
As happens when you push yourself to the limit there were a few mishaps but fortunately nothing serious. About 100 volunteers gave up their time to help make the event a success.
The top results were as follows:
- Top Male – Josh Bird, Mississauga, 4:11.58
- Top Female – Miranda Tomenson, Toronto, 4:32.08
- Top Local (Huntsville) Finisher, Male: Mark Sinnige, Huntsville, 4:51.26
- Top Local (Huntsville) Finisher, Female, Laura Hilton, Huntsville, 7:23.07

Congratulations to all the participants and organizers for this annual event. Great for Huntsville and Muskoka. Wish I could still do this kind of thing.
My only question is in your naming of the event as an Ironman.
Half a true Ironman is quite an accomplishment and much harder than the Olympic triathalon but still is not a real Ironman distance which would take twice the time and would be a mammoth undertaking for the organizers, sponsors ,volunteers and who can forget …. the participants.
Sorry for being so sensitive but calling this event an Ironman is kinda like calling a half marathon a marathon. I know because the Ironman I did many years ago only took a modest 14 hours. What a wonderful day.
All that being said …..congratulations to all those involved in this great July event. Well done!
I know someone who already crossed that finish line – Don McCormick. He would be so pleased to see this event and cheer all participants as they competed. Well done to all volunteers! Don’s hard work gets continued by you : )
