A judge questioned why a man on a work permit obtained a firearms licence after the court heard videos showed him allegedly shooting guns recklessly from a vehicle on Crown land in Georgian Bay Township.
Gurkanwal Singh, 24, recently pleaded guilty in a Bracebridge courtroom to careless use of a firearm.
Court heard that on Feb. 3, 2025, officers responded to a call for service in the Georgian Bay area, where they found a Jeep stuck on Crown land. Singh was identified as the driver, and firearms were located inside the vehicle.
The court heard police later obtained video footage from an Instagram account allegedly linked to Singh, showing him shooting firearms in a reckless manner from the same vehicle. Investigators reviewed multiple videos dating back over time, including footage showing him using several firearms and discharging a gun from inside the vehicle.
Court heard Singh had obtained his Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) while in Canada on a work permit.
Justice Edward Carleton questioned why Singh had obtained the licence and purchased firearms.
Defence counsel told the court Singh was not a hunter and described his actions as a “foolish decision.”
The Crown argued Singh should receive a $1,000 fine along with forfeiture of the firearm, while the defence sought an absolute discharge.
Justice Carleton ordered a pre-sentence report, and the matter is scheduled to return to court later this month.

What in hell is this guy doing with a hand gun.You can no longer purchase a hand gun in Canada. If you own one before this new law,you can only transport it to a registered gun club under lock and key .These guys look like their from the middle east and they have guns, very scary. They should be severely delt with and let’s not go after the deer hunters and Canadian’s who follow all the rules and regulations

I know it’s early morning and I just woke up ,but is this for real? This why the crazies out there are carrying on about every thing these day’s. This person / persons should be removed and give the permit to work to someone deserving. There are so many who come here that are amazing people we can’t judge all for a few. There is an imbalance of Justice these day’s it is not making “Sense”
By the way I have lived / worked outside of Canada and have witness deeds done that are far less severe and the Perp was thrown on a plane and sent home
Actually we just saw the fellows in the picture in a group meeting up in Gravenhurst near the Starbucks. Kind of curious as to why they all need handguns and fire arms? Hopefully they read this and can reply.
$1000 fine!………doesn’t even cover the court costs. If government is serious about gun crime don’t make legal law abiding gun owners. Criminal, instead cases like this need to have way harsher penalties including jail time
I read “firearm” , not “firearmS” … the article states he was in possession of multiple guns! I hope they were ALL taken away along with his gun permit. I wonder if there will be an investigation as to what office issued a gun permit to someone holding a work permit…
Absolute discharge?????? You’ve got to be kidding.. Guidelines and laws are in place. Why not use them diligently?
Right on Mr. Beatty !
Might as well include hand guns in large boxes of Crackerjack if you’re going to give them out to non residents. . Nonsenical !
