Impaired driver pleads guilty in head-on collision

An impaired driver who sent multiple people to hospital after a head-on crash was in a Bracebridge courtroom recently. 

Andrew Barker, 57, of Parry Sound pled guilty to impaired driving causing bodily harm. 

Court heard that on April 20th, 2022, police and emergency crews were called to Aspdin Road just before 6 p.m. to report a serious collision in Huntsville. When they arrived police found two vehicles involved in a head-on collision.

A woman, 24, was transported by air ambulance to a Sudbury area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. All other occupants of the vehicles were transported to hospital in Huntsville with non-life threatening injuries.

Following an investigation, Barker was charged with:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of operation of a motor vehicle while impaired cause bodily harm contrary to section 320.14 (2) of the Criminal Code of Canada

.His sentencing was put over until July 24, 2024.
