Two of Huntsville’s minor lacrosse teams came home with banners this past weekend after winning their respective tournaments.
The Oddfellow Tykes dominated their competition, winning all five games in the Fergus tournament for C & D divisions in Centre Wellington.
They opened the competition with shutout victories over Guelph 9-0 and Centre Wellington 8-0. They followed that up with a 13-5 romp over Wallaceburg which put them in the semi final round.
They defeated Brantford in the semi final 10-4 and Cambridge 10-4 in the championship final.

The Moller Insurance Novice Hawks also won their five games but had to go to overtime in the championship game to beat Six Nations 4-3. Hunter Crawford scored in the extra period for the Hawks.
Huntsville had earlier won 4-2 over North Caledon, 8-2 over Centre Wellington, 6-4 over Wallaceburg and 9-7 over Orangeville in the semi final game.
Coach Steve Perentesis said the championship banner didn’t come easily.
“It’s great to see a group of individuals merge together to become a team,” he said. “They played some tough teams, not only skillful but very physical players too. They made it to the finals against Six Nations with determination and heart.
“We had lost to this team a couple of weeks earlier and it came down to a goaltenders’ battle. Six Nations tied it in the third period to send the game to overtime setting the stage for Crawford’s goal. They proved to themselves that hard work pays off.”
The R & G Construction Peewees and FC Hammond Bantams played in an A/B division in the Don Swindells Memorial Classic in West Durham this past weekend. It was a tough tournament as both teams are currently ranked in the C Division. The teams performed well given they were playing up a division.
