Huntsville’s Terry Fox Run raises almost $20,000 for cancer research

There were 188 people walking, running and rolling on Sunday morning, September 18, all with the same wish: that one day we will have a world free from cancer. Together they added $19,780 to the more than $1.2 million this community has raised to date for the Terry Fox Foundation, which funds “the most promising and innovative cancer research in Canada.”

“You need to be very proud of yourselves,” said local Terry Fox Run organizer Bill Coon to the participants. “I always tell people when talking about Terry, the money will take care of itself. It’s important we remember that man and what he stood for and what he did in that summer of 1980, running a marathon a day for 143 days. What a legacy he started.”

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement added that he had the honour of knowing the Fox family and held their efforts in high regard. He thanked all of the participants for doing their part to carry on Terry’s legacy.

After the cyclists headed out on the course, the remaining participants were led in a brief warm-up by Motivations Fitness before beginning their own one-, five-, or 10-kilometre routes.

The event was supported by 55 enthusiastic volunteers and many local sponsors.
