Huntsville resident John Wright has shared some amazing photos of the Northern Lights he managed to capture on Monday night, October 7, 2024, with Doppler readers.
John and his wife Irene built their retirement home in Huntsville on a cliff across from Hidden Valley and Deerhurst Resort in 2005.
“Irene introduced me to Huntsville as she had gone to summer camp (Camp Tawingo) for several years when she was growing up. We moved to Huntsville full time in 2015 and love being part of this amazing community nestled in beautiful Muskoka,” noted Wright via email correspondence. He retired from a company in the renewable and green energy sector, and his wife from the health care sector.
He took the photographs from their deck using an iPhone 15 Pro Max, set on “night mode” and a tripod. He said he happened to be checking the Weather Network late Monday night as he prepared to cut the grass at Fairvern Long Term Care home, a place where he volunteers. He said he saw an article that said the weekend had been particularly good for viewing the Northern Lights and he remembers being disappointed that he had missed them. “Then I thought, why not go outside and check to see if there were any still visible tonight? And there they were! It was still a bit cloudy, but the clouds actually created a nice effect in the photos. You can also see the lights of Deerhurst and Hidden Valley resorts in the foreground.”
Thank you for sharing, John!
