Break out your pens and pencils! The Huntsville Theatre Company (HTC) is continuing their successful Artists Led Workshop series with a writers’ workshop and competition!
On January 25, esteemed writer Kyra Evans will facilitate a two-hour workshop, ‘Write the Truth’. This workshop will teach you how to find and connect with that truth. ‘Write the Truth’ will serve writers of all experience levels (from completely new to seasoned professionals) and disciplines (from songwriters to playwrights to poets). Unlike a traditional workshop, there will be no emphasis on sharing your work, unless you feel comfortable doing so. We’ll create a safe, accepting, and nurturing space in which to connect with your thoughts and grow your skill.
If you are interested in sharing your work, there will also be a playwriting competition following the workshop with two guest judges: renowned producer/director/writer Leonard Farlinger and best-selling author Terry Fallis. The prize? The winner will have their play performed on stage at the Algonquin Theatre. Registrants will be given a theme and will have one hour to put together their play, so bring your team!
‘Write the Truth’ workshop and the playwriting competition take place on Saturday, January 25 in Partners Hall of the Algonquin Theatre. The workshop runs from 6-8 p.m., with the competition to follow from 8-10 p.m. Entry fee is $20 for the workshop, $15 for the competition, or $30 for both the workshop and competition. You can also attend the competition as an audience member for $10 ($5 if you are an HTC member).
