HPL celebrates Ontario Public Library Week: A visit will get you thinking

Join Huntsville Public Library (HPL) from October 14-20, 2018 to celebrate Ontario Public Library Week (OPLW).

According to the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, over 4.5 million Ontarians, or nearly 33 percent of the population, hold a public library card. Library cards are free for residents and taxpayers of the Town of Huntsville. Just stop by the library with ID and proof of address to get your library card. With more than 60,000 items to choose from, including books, movies, music, hotspots, magazines and more, there is sure to be something for everyone.

During Ontario Public Library Week, HPL will begin launching MakerKits. Each week the Library has STEAM programming for children. Now after classes their parents will be able to check out some of the devices used in the programs. The MakerKits will provide the opportunity to continue to develop skills while having a lot of fun.

Mayor Scott Aitchison kicked off OPLW with Storytime with the Mayor on Thursday, October 11. In the coming week these events will celebrated in the library:

4th Annual Youth Tech Extravaganza, Tues. Oct. 14 from 4 to 6 p.m.
-Try out tech gadgets, robotics, virtual reality and much more!

Food 4 Fines Oct. 14-20
-Bring your non-perishable food items to the library during Ontario Public Library Week and the library will donate the items to the Table Food Bank. If you have fines on your card, they will lower them by $1 for every item you
donate.
