There’s no shortage of ways to celebrate Canada’s 149th birthday. (You look so young, Canada!)

Mark your calendars for these events throughout the day:

Lions Club Peameal On a Bun Breakfast
9:00 am | River Mill Park

O Canada & Canada Day Cupcakes
10:00 am | River Mill Park
Mayor Scott Aitchison and dignitaries including MP Tony Clement and MPP Norm Miller will join Huntsville founding father Cap’t George Hunt in servingCanada Day cupcakes. Enjoy music from Muskoka Concert Band and sing O Canada. Canada flags, tattoos and pins.

Muskoka Heritage Place Strawberry Social & Steam Up Day
10:00 am – 4:00 pm | 88 Brunel Road
Live entertainment, costumed narrators, historical demonstrations and complementary strawberry scones, while supplies last. Hop aboard for the first official day of the season for the Portage Flyer. Regular admission rates apply.

Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 232 | 21 Veteran’s Way
11:00 am – Opening ceremonies
Festivities all day long. Hot dogs and hamburgers, face painting, band from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm and much more. Roast beef dinner starting at 5:00 pm (two sittings). Donations appreciated.

Robinson’s Independent Grocer
11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Kids make your own Canada Day birthday cake to take home. Tattoos, games and snacks. 1:00 pm, annual balloon release – prizes to be won. $2 donation per child to the President’s Choice Children’s Charity is appreciated.

Downtown Huntsville Food & Music Festival
11:00 am – 4:00 pm | Main Street
An afternoon of food, music and fun. Main Street turns into a pedestrian-friendly promenade courtesy of the merchants of downtown. Music and Canada Day Stage presented by Hunters Bay Radio.

Join in the Canada Day Dance!
12:00 pm and 1:00 pm
The young dancers at JJ Dance Performing Arts Studio want to groove with you on Canada Day! Learn the dance in advance and then join in the fun on Main Street!

Port Sydney Celebration
10:00 am – 3:30 pm | Port Sydney Beach
Beach party music and BBQ, sand castle competition, decorate a Canada Day t-shirt, kids activities by camp Mini-Yo-We, Huntsville Fire Department truck, Ontario Watercross racing demo, Citizen of the Year Presentation and more.

Oxtongue Lake celebrates link to David Thompson
12:00pm-2:00pm
Oxtongue Lake for Arts and Culture will be unveiling a plaque commemorating explorer and mapmaker David Thompson as part of Canada Day festivities. (More information here.)

FIREWORKS!
10:00 pm | Launch location over Hunters Bay behind the Fire Hall at Dusk .
Best spots to view fireworks: Avery Beach, Huntsville Public School and the Huntsville Fire Department. Tune in to THE MOOSE FM 105.5 for musical accompaniment.

And thanks to Huntsville’s Youth Green Team, who will be on-hand to keep it green and to educate on sustainable waste management (look for the new Ecostations ready to receive recyclables & waste), and to Coldwell Banker Thompson Real Estate for their annual efforts (for 21 years!) to place 6,000 Canada flags throughout Huntsville and Port Sydney.
