Huntsville councillors were unanimous in their decision not to grant an exemption to the noise by-law for the organizers of the weekend Watercross race event that would have taken place this June in Hidden Valley Bay.
Prior to the vote, organizers made a last ditch effort to stem growing concern over noise and pollution concerns. Organizer Jason Bidan didn’t sway council when he said, “We are loud, but we aren’t hurting anything.”
Councillors received many phone calls and letters in protest to the event. Councillor Bob Stone said, “I’ve heard more noise about this event than anything since I was elected to council.”
Letters of protest were received from numerous concerned residents, Township of Lake of Bays Mayor Robert Young, Peninsula Lake Association, The Woodland Heights Community Association, and the President of the Peninsula Lake Association.
