HHS students bring home medals from Skills Ontario competition last week

Huntsville High School had 12 students win the qualifying rounds to compete at the provincial Ontario Skills Competition held at the Congress Centre Toronto last week. 

These students competed in Photography, Automotive, Hospitality, and Construction categories. “They worked their hardest, and their teachers couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments,” said HHS teacher David Lomas.

Eight local students have since returned home with medals!

  • Cade HrBak earned a silver medal in the Plumbing competition.
  • Matt MacKinnon earned a silver in Bricklaying.
  • Spencer Morgan, Shane Buitenhuis, Nate Bishop, and Ty Bishop earned a gold medal in the Home-building competition.
  • Wilson Sinclair earned gold in the Electrical competition, and Sinclair will continue to compete as part of Team Ontario in Quebec City!
  • In Hospitality, Ella Watson earned silver in the baking competitions.

    Congratulations to all who competed at Ontario Skilled Trades Competition! Congratulations to the teachers. Long hours go into practicing. The results are well deserved results for all!

    Congratulations to these students, teachers, and Doppler for reporting this great story.
    It is so great to see a story on 12 young folks competing, not just in sports but in Life Skills that will get them jobs. Exceptional skills that are needed in our community, to sustain us and to assist themselves and others in these industries succeed.
    I hope all these students and others perfect these skills and continue to make their home here in Muskoka. We all benefit by having these skilled individuals here in Muskoka. Well done,

    I am beyond proud of Cade, Matt, Spencer, Shane, Nate, Ty, Wilson and Ella and all others for choosing to go into the skilled trades.
    i have always admired young students who are inspired to go into that line of career.
    Every single choice of work is an important cog in the wheel of professions.
