Allen Markle says
These were young men about our town, just as I was born. There are people there that I would likely have known as fathers of friends. But not being a ‘townie’ I can’t put names to faces as I am sure some can.
But one face though I feel familiar with. On the left smiling slightly and in the ubiquitous gray suit. I think that is Harry Thornton. He was principal during my years in HHS and would show up from time to time when we had teams off to track meets and wrestling matches. Encouraging us to ‘make them wish we hadn’t come’.
He was never fond of me showing up to school on a motorcycle, but Doug Stone loved taking the machine out for a little run. I was saved. But there were times standing before ‘Pop’ that I was not. Saved that is.
He’s smiling slightly in the photo. At other times he surely was not.
