Abby Fawcett loves basketball. The grade 11 Huntsville High School (HHS) student recently had the opportunity to show both her skill and her passion for her sport when she was one of 24 girls selected for the Canletes Ontario High School All-Star Game at Humber College North Campus.
“Canletes choose players based on stats, provincial play and OFSAA play,” explained her mom, Susan Fawcett. “We are super proud of her for representing the area!”
Abby had a successful season playing on the HHS Hoyas Senior Girls team, which wrapped up at the OFSAA championships in Huntsville on November 25.
She has also begun playing with JUEL, an elite girls basketball league in Barrie that provides female athletes the opportunity to play with and against some of the best competitors from across the province. “She is off to a successful start in exhibition play,” said Susan.
When asked about being selected to attend the Canletes event, Abby said, “Being chosen to play was a great honour and opportunity.” The game was held at Humber College where many university and college coaches were in attendance, scouting players. Three grade 12 players announced that they were being signed following the game.

“Abby had a very successful game. Due to the fact that Abby is only in grade 11, this game has allowed her to be exposed to opportunities to play at the post-secondary level,” said Susan.
