It was another great year for Huntsville High School’s badminton team.
At the Muskoka Parry Sound (MPS) tournament on Thursday, April 18, junior Sophia Marshall won first place in Women’s Singles, Haley Clarke and Courtney Lemon earned fourth place in the Women’s Doubles, and Preston Standing placed fourth in the Men’s Singles.
With her win, Sophia Marshall qualified to represent HHS in Women’s Singles at the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) regional championship on April 25. Haley Clarke and Courtney Lemon got a surprise berth in Women’s Doubles because the third place team could not attend. Marshall brought home the silver for Women’s Singles.

The HHS senior badminton team also found success at the Muskoka Parry Sound championship. On April 16, Men’s Doubles team Tyler Blair and Matthew Schmanda won first place. Alicia McLinden took a third-place win in the Women’s Singles.
Blair and Schmanda then moved on to the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) regional championship on April 24 where they once again placed first and, for the second year in a row, qualified for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) provincial championships, which were held May 2-4 in North Bay. Blair and Schmanda competed at their best but were knocked out in the quarter finals after losing their third match by only three points. Well done, team!
