Huntsville High School’s Alpine ski team traveled to two races in February: the Jean Vanier International GS on February 8 for their fourth race of the season and the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) alpine ski championships on February 15, both at Osler Bluff Ski Club near Collingwood.
At the Jean Vanier International GS, Level 1 female racer Kaitlyn Belfry placed third in individual competition while her teammate Samantha Goldring placed 19th.
Level 1 male Ethan Murdy place sixth in individual competition, followed by teammates Chris Miller in seventh, Theo Pinckard in 10th, Alex Dube in 15th and Sean Sanderson in 16th. Those results earned the team 23 points to secure a third place finish.
Level 2 females – Addie Howell, Sydney Stevens, Emma Magee and Emily Jason – earned third spot with a team score of 34 points. In individual competition, Addie Howell placed 9th, Sydney Stevens placed 11th and Emma Magee placed 14th.
The Level 2 male team skied to an overall fourth place finish with 49 points, with Matthew Stevens placing seventh in individual competition followed by Jakob Heinz in 20th, Gage Magee in 22nd, and Cole Stevens in 26th.
In individual competition at the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) championships, Level 1 female Kaitlyn Belfry placed 6th, Zoe Kruusmagi placed 13th and Samantha Goldring placed 20th.
In Level 1 male competition, Ethan Murdy placed eighth, Theo Pinckard 11th, Chris Miller 13th, Cameron Heinz 24th, Sean Sanderson 25th, Zack Belfry 35th and Josh Lawson 42nd. The Level 1 Male team, comprising Chris Miller, Ethan Murdy, Sean Sanderson, Theo Pinckard and Zack Belfry, earned a fourth place finish.
The Level 2 females had close individual races with Addie Howell in 13th, Emma Magee in 14th, Sydney Stevens in 16th and Emily Jason in 19th, earning the team a third place finish with 43 points.
The Level 2 Male team came away with a second place finish with 33 points thanks to the individual efforts of Matthew Stevens in third, Jakob Heinz in 12th, Gage Magee in 18th and Cole Stevens in 21st.
