A GoFundMe campaign has been organized for Huntsville native Chris Sluman.
Chris, who was born and raised in Huntsville and attended Huntsville High School, now lives in North Bay with his wife, Hailey Bertrand-Sluman, and their daughter, Briar.
“On January 4th, 2026, their world was shaken when they received the devastating news that Chris was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia,” notes the GoFundMe organized for the family in North Bay, where his wife is a well-known veterinarian. “What first seemed like a bad flu he couldn’t shake, became a life-altering moment no one could have prepared for,” adds the organizer of the fundraiser.
His family is devastated.
“This is a parent’s worst nightmare! You feel so helpless! My son Chris, his wife Hailey and their daughter Briar are going through the biggest fight of their life. Our extended family has been amazing and so supportive! His cousins have started to organize a fundraiser to help out on his Journey! We are all pulling together for them! Everyone is so generous! This journey he is on is overwhelming for all of us! He needs his community of family, friends and the rest of the community to rally around him and help him get the treatment he needs!” said his dad, Tim Sluman, who lives in Huntsville. “We want to thank everyone who has already helped and a really big thank you in advance to everyone who will donate in the future! No one really thinks about the saying, ‘it takes a village to raise a child!’ Chris is no longer a child, but he is mine! And it really does take a village!”
Chris, a farrier in North Bay, is described as “the best kind of person,” someone who exemplifies a true ‘shirt-off-his-back’ kind of guy.
Friends have organized a fundraiser to help the family as Chris begins aggressive treatment. Please access the fundraiser here: https://gofund.me/9f07da576
