Fundraiser launched to support Bracebridge teen after collision

A community fundraiser has been launched to help a 13-year-old Bracebridge boy named Cole who was seriously injured after being struck by a car while riding his bike on Saturday afternoon.

The collision happened around 1:17 p.m. on November 9 on Taylor Road in Bracebridge. According to the Ontario Provincial Police, officers and Muskoka EMS responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a crash between a motor vehicle and an e-bike. The youth operating the e-bike was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Police say the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Cole was first taken to hospital and then transferred to Orillia for emergency surgery before being moved to Toronto for more extensive surgery to save his foot.

A GoFundMe campaign titled “Help Cole Heal” was launched by his aunt, Julie Cochrane, to help cover medical expenses, assistive devices and rehabilitation costs.

“Cole’s world changed in an instant when he was struck by a car while riding his bike,” the campaign reads. “He is facing a long road to recovery—medical treatments, therapies, and the support he needs to heal both his body and spirit.”

As of today, more than $9,414 has been raised toward the campaign’s $13,000 goal.

In an update, Cochrane shared that Cole has undergone a second surgery. “We’re still holding onto hope as the results haven’t come in as we wished,” she said. “Please keep Cole in your prayers. Let’s send him all our positive energy, love, and hope.”

Police are asking anyone with information, including home surveillance or dash cam footage from the area, to contact Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.crimestopperssdm.com.
