Failed mayoral candidate: “I’m ready to shoot someone”

Reuben Pyette-Bouillon was more than unhappy with the election results. In fact, he took to his Facebook page on Monday, October 24 stating that he was so mad he was ready to shoot someone.

He also posted a comment on Huntsville Doppler the day after the election, stating: “All I can say it was the worst case of election fraud I have ever witnessed and been a part of. Alcock was responsable for the attacks on property owners as counsel too choose to ignore the rules and break the laws of Canada.
Shawn and I received the exact same votes yet we run separate campaigns. The numbers don’t add up and Elections Canada has been called in to investigate the irregularities. I’m distrusted and appalled by these results.”

Reuben Pyette-Bouillon got the least votes of all four mayoral candidates who ran in the 2022 municipal election. He got 131. His spouse, Shawn Bouillon-Pyette, who ran for Chaffey Ward, received an identical amount of votes at 131, also coming in last in that race.

Nothing will happen. Unless you make a direct threat against a place, person or organisation there is no real recourse for the law.

The defence is simple, I was expressing frustration.

  2. DonnaParlee says:

I thought it was pretty obvious, Reuben – you have 131 supporters. Those same 131 supporters also voted for your husband.

  3. John MacDonald says:

Uttering such threats in this day and age is at best, unwise and at worst dangerous. Perhaps he should seek some sort of counseling to sort out the difference between “passionate” and violent.

  4. Kathleen Gilchrist says:

Reuben Pyette-Bouillon is saying that there was voter fraud. One reason he noted was that he got 131 votes and his partner Shawn Bouillon-Pyette got 131 votes. Easy to figure out. Voters in Chaffey Ward voted for Mayor; Ward 2 Councillor (Chaffey); and District & Town Councillor. It is obvious that 131 electors in Chaffey voted for him as Mayor and the same for Shawn Bouillon-Pyette, as Chaffey Ward Councillor. Running separate campaigns has nothing to do with the votes.
Being the former Municipal Clerk for the Town of Huntsville, with also being the Returning Officer for Municipal Elections, it is not unusual for such a difference in votes. It happens.
The system is all set up by the Company that is providing the service. It is not programed by Election Staff working for the Town. It is the same for any municipality in Ontario that used the same voting method.

I worked with Ruben many years ago.
My experience was that he was a principled man, but “passionate”
I am surprised by his comment, but he is someone with whom I would work again – he did not seem unhinged.

  6. Robert Graziano says:

Sounds like a guy named “Trump”

  7. Brian Tapley says:

I thought these kind of comments were reserved for that “comb over” guy currently residing in Florida.
If there is any substantiation of these claims this data needs to appear promptly.
If not this guy needs to apologize for inappropriate comments, in public and also quickly.

  8. A. Blaney says:

Any political candidate should know better than to accuse others of election fraud without evidence.
As we have seen in the States, using the political pulpit to push conspiracy theories without proof is precarious (say that one 5 times fast).

If Pyette-Boullion believes there is corruption, he needs to present evidence to authorities – he shouldn’t be using his quickly fading ‘public moment’ to expose grudges and throw accusations around. The only purpose to that is to get others upset on his behalf.

That’s not the action of a leader.
It’s not the action of someone whom we can trust to govern logically and for the benefit of everyone in Muskoka.

  9. DOUGLAS Earl says:

Wow…. I will never ride in one of his taxis. His taxi permit should be cancelled after that response to the election.

  10. johnny fillion says:

I think it’s comments like this that show why his candidacy was not taken seriously, and to suggest fraud and a ‘crooked election’ with not a shred of proof is totally irresponsible. 7000 voters, almost 98%, opted to vote for the other 3 candidates, so forget your sour grapes and move on.

He had a couple interesting ideas, and it’s clear after they lost the OMB/OML case that the town might have been treating them both unfairly, but the voters are ALWAYS right, and the results show that!

  11. Dani Harper says:

Scary, and very strange … Does he seriously think these kinds of comments will sway any rational people to his cause? This voter is distrusted (?) and appalled by his comments, and his campaign in general.

  12. Hugh Mackenzie says:

    THe OPP have been notified.

  13. Barry groomes says:

Well maybe it’s a real good thing that he wasn’t elected to anything. He sounds like a real gem. But the I’m going to shoot someone comment should maybe come to the OPP’s attention. He sounds like he couldn’t organize a one man rush to a 2 man outhouse
