Extreme cold and more heavy snow expected into the weekend

With Environment Canada anticipating a significant amount of snow for Huntsville on Thursday, January 22, 2026, continuing into the weekend, here are some reminders from the Town of Huntsville on steps residents can take to help the Operations department in their snow-clearing and removal efforts:

  • Do not park on Town and District roads overnight. A contractor will be removing snow from urban roads in Huntsville on Thursday and Friday night. Please keep our streets clear of vehicles.
  • Avoid parking overnight in Town lots to allow for more effective snow removal.
  • Keep garbage cans off the shoulder of the road during this week’s collection. This helps our plow drivers be as efficient as possible on their routes.
  • Do not shovel, blow or plow snow out onto a public roadway. This is illegal and can create dangerous road conditions.
  • Clearing a small section of the snowbank before your driveway will help minimize any snow pushed onto your driveway from the plow.
  • Residents are responsible for clearing the snowbanks on their property. Please ensure the snowbanks at the end of your driveway entrance are low enough to allow for visibility for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

The plow blocked up the cut out I shovelled for my post box and my access to driveway just after I spent two hours feebly shovelling with my little red shovel and my septuagenarian muscles. The advice to make a cut out before my drive access would have been useful before we got all this snow- going to be tough going now knocking down those snow banks far enough back into the ditch to make a difference.Maybe a more timely reminder about these suggestions earlier in the season? ( October/ November?)
