Officers will be targeting unsafe driving behaviours to help keep everyone safe this Labour Day weekend.
As we head into the final long weekend of summer, the OPP is urging all road users to make safety a priority. Whether you’re driving, boating, paddling, or hitting the trails, your actions matter. 214 lives lost on OPP-patrolled roads this year, many due to speeding, impaired driving, inattention, and not wearing seatbelts. These are preventable tragedies.
Boaters, paddlers, and off-roaders, wear your lifejackets and helmets. They’re your best chance of surviving a serious incident.
With school starting next week, let’s use this weekend to recommit to safe, responsible travel! if you see a dangerous or impaired driver, call 9-1-1. That one call could save a life. Together, we can make this long weekend a safe one for everyone.

Great to see the increased police presence this weekend. Government needs to change the law to make it illegal to pass on a double yellow line as a small step to target dangerous driving. Challenge is always going to be enforcement. Government cuts to policing make it a huge challenge for the dedicated officers to be where they need to be when needed the most.
