Evelyn Anne Brown, loving Mother of Deborah Bell (Gord), Sandra Johnson (Calvin) and Jim Brown (Sanday), peacefully passed away on January 6th, 2026, in Huntsville, Ontario, at the amazing age of 94. She was a caring Grandmother to 6 grandchildren, Courtney (Brad) & Ashley, Tyler & Owen, Zachary & Riley and one great-grandson, Jameson.
Ev was very involved with her children’s youth from school to Brownies/Cubs, choirs and sports. Most summers, Ev shared her love of the outdoors with her children and grandchildren through camping and doing the things they all loved – swimming, fishing, exploring, campfires and more.
Ev was born on February 15th, 1931, in Toronto to James and Gertrude Coope.
She was the youngest of the three girls, her sisters being Geraldine and Margaret. Ev’s dedication and willingness to learn prepared her for many different occupations in her life – Church Secretary and Custodian, Toronto Airport Security, Tupperware Manager and Office Manager for the Toronto Teachers’ Federation, to name a few. Ev was also a dedicated volunteer who gave many hours, especially to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Ev spent many summers with her mother and father in Dorset, which prompted her to move to the Dwight area in 1996, after her retirement from the Toronto Teachers’ Federation. She loved this Northern part of Ontario and quickly became attached to her new home in the woods. She loved to paddle on the lake, watch the herons that always gave her peace, garden in her ever-developing perennial garden with rock samples from her Rockhound days, explore the paths through the forests and enjoy the friendships and festivities with her neighbours.
From an early age, Ev was forever participating in different sports, starting with women’s baseball as the team’s pitcher. She would continue to develop her love of sports throughout her lifetime, where she would find many great friends who grew so close they were like family. The volleyball, curling and golf friends not only brought out Ev’s skills and competitiveness but her keen sense of humour and high spiritedness. She has been described as “always up to something crazy” and full of “vim and vigour”. Many of her friendships became life-long and forever, starting with her life in Toronto, eventually to her many years at Echo Valley in Dwight and finally to her time spent at The Cove in Huntsville. She loved to be surrounded by her friends and would rise to any occasion to spend time laughing, bantering and reminiscing about all of the good times they shared.
In all of Ev’s vast experiences, she developed deep and lasting friendships with both young and old. She loved to connect through participating in fun gatherings, phone conversations and travelling near and far. Ev positively touched many people throughout her life.
Ev lived a vibrant life to its fullest until the end, when finally her body could no longer go on. Her spirit is now and always will be soaring on.
Ev will be greatly missed and will always be in our memories.
We would like to invite family and friends to celebrate Ev’s life in a Celebration of Life on April 11th, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Huntsville Curling Club, 6 Veterans Way, Huntsville, Ontario. If you wish to say a few words at the Celebration of Life, please let us know by email at [email protected]

I met Ev when I moved to Huntsville 23 years ago. She welcomed me into her circle of friends and made me feel welcome. She was a bright light in this world and never failed to stop to chat when we ran into each other around town. Eve loved life and lived it to the fullest. We got to know each other through golf at both Grandview and Huntsville Down. I will miss her smiling face.
I had the privilege of working with Ev through the Canadian Cancer Society while being employed at Robinson’s Independent Grocer. Ev had such an optimistic outlook on life and was full of life. RIP Ev – you were one of a kind! – Maggie
