Etwell Concert Series presents Cameo Blues Band Oct. 2

These guys are well-seasoned veteran Toronto musicians, including Ray Harrison, John Dickie, and John Bride. Their shows are a collection of great old gems that showcase their immense talent and are always a fun time

Opening at 2:45 pm is Jakki Rogue who is returning from Nova Scotia for this show. Jakki headlined the first-ever Etwell Concert Series in 2012. ( Covid prevented Jakki from playing here earlier in the season).

In other news, Paul Reddick, ( who performed here on Sept 4 and most years since 2012)) has reached out for help with production costs of his new record. He has recorded 10 new songs and hopes to mix and release them by spring. He has a gofundme page and asked if I would share the link. This is a humbling experience for Paul to need to reach out. I’d just like to mention that Paul has helped others in the past. Years ago, Paul created and originally self-funded the Cobalt Prize Contemporary Blues Composition Award with the goal of promoting blues music through the exploration of its form.  He’s a Juno Award-winning songwriter who needs a hand in getting what should be 10 beautiful new songs released. Here’s the link.

Henri Audet who opened up one of our shows generously donated more than $200 of tip money that he received yesterday to the fund. A talented and caring musician helping out another.

It’s a small world.

After a moving performance by LTZ this past Sunday, guitarist and singer/songwriter Rick Taylor stayed over and we conversed till the wee hours. Rick is 68 and has had a long career dating back to the early 70s spending years in NYC and Vancouver before returning home to his roots in the Niagara Peninsula. He worked with Leonard Cohen for a time early on.

Anyways, Rick is looking at some posters on my wall. He suddenly gets excited about a poster for the Lower Level Concert Series in St. Catharines and bursts out, “That was my first real gig as a musician. I was 17. It was an amazing experience”

Jeanine and myself created and ran the Lower Level Concert Series in St Catharines as a summer job in the summers of 1972 and 73 ( while we were attending Brock). They were outdoor shows and we hired the likes of Max Webster, the Good Bros, Hock Walsh, Mendelson Joe and also local bands such as Bull Rush and the Lost Marbles Boogie Band.

Obviously, Rick played at one of our shows. He has a much clearer memory. ( he’s younger than us).

It was a warm feeling. An artist who performed at one of our concerts returns to play another 50 years later.
