Environment Canada issues special weather statement

Updated by Environment and Climate Change Canada on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 4:30 AM. Areas affected include Muskoka and East Parry Sound.

Major ice storm this weekend.

What:
Prolonged period of freezing rain.
Significant ice accretion. General ice accretion amounts of 5 to 15 mm, with amounts in excess of 15 mm possible.
Widespread power outages.
Icy and slippery conditions.
Possible snow and ice pellet accumulations of 5 to 15 cm.

When:
Sunday.

Additional information:
After a break in the precipitation today, freezing rain is forecast to begin early Sunday morning and continue until Sunday evening.

Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.

Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
