Eight Huntsville-area groups among recipients of District’s 2019 Pay It Forward grants

The District of Muskoka’s Pay it Forward (PIF) Community Investment Grant Program, which launched in 2012, provides funding to community groups or individuals helping to build a stronger Muskoka. Approved projects must fill a need in the community, enhance community support and leadership, create positive change and improve the quality of life for Muskoka’s most vulnerable citizens.

For 2019, 54 applications were submitted, 25 of which were approved for funding from the $40,000 available.

Eight of the groups who received funding are in the Huntsville area:

  • Stephenson District Lions Club – $1,500 for a large Christmas dinner geared toward seniors which engages many volunteers in the preparation and delivery of the meal.
  • Cameron of Lochiel Pipes and Drums – $2,450 to purchase band equipment to enhance its ability to offer free music lessons and pro bono performances.
  • Enliven Centre for Wellbeing in Cancer – $1,000 for its third annual panel discussion on living with cancer diagnosis.
  • Huntsville Ukulele Group – $2,500 to continue their efforts as a traveling music group to reach people who may be socially isolated, specifically seniors and people with disabilities.
  • Huntsville Women’s Group – $950 for its free weekly drop-in for all women.
  • Huntsville Lion’s Club – $1,800 to purchase a commercial BBQ to hold fundraisers in support of community causes and provide affordable food options at town festivals and community events.
  • Port Sydney Yoga – $1,000 to provide free, gentle yoga twice a week for 12 weeks to encourage activity and demonstrate benefits of yoga to people who might not otherwise access.
  • Huntsville Theatre Company – $2,000 for its free afterschool theatre program for children which culminates in a full production.
