More examples Limit Your Hand
Today we look at more examples of your partnership agreement to Limit Your Hand. This means that after an opening bid, partner does his best to show the value of his hand within three points. How do you respond to partner’s opening bid with the following hands?
Case 1:
Spades xxx
Hearts Kxx
Diamonds Kxxx
Clubs xxx
Case 1: Partner opens One Heart. A supporting bid of Two Hearts limits your hand to the 6-9 point range. You have nothing more to say and will PASS anything opener bids, except a new suit which is forcing for one round.
Case 2:
Spades xxxx
Hearts Qxx
Diamonds x
Clubs AKxxx
Case 2: Partner opens One Spade. You jump to Three Spades showing good support for Spades and 10-12 points including one length point. By limiting your hand, you have said all there is to say about your hand and will PASS unless partner bids a new suit which would be forcing for one round of bidding. You could then introduce your Clubs.
Case 3:
Spades xx
Hearts xxx
Diamonds AQxxx
Clubs xxx
Case 3: Your partner opens One Diamond. You must now choose your bid. You have seven points including one length point and good support for Diamonds. Limit your hand by bidding Two Diamonds. Partner now knows you have Diamond support and 6-9 points. According to the strength of his hand, opening partner may either PASS or go on.
