More examples of responses to Unusual 2NT
Today we look at more examples of your partnership agreement for Unusual 2NT responses. This time, your left hand opponent opens any suit at the one level. Your partner makes an Unusual 2NT bid showing the two lowest unbid five-five or better suits. How do you respond to partner with your following hands?
Case 1:
Spades Axxx
Hearts xxx
Diamonds AKxxx
Clubs A
Case 1: Your left hand opponent opens One Heart. Your partner bids 2NT. He shows a two-suited five-five hand in Diamonds and Clubs. Now you have to respond. With your big hand and Diamond support you jump to game by bidding Five Diamonds. Always show support for your partner’s suit as soon as you can. The jump also shows your extra strength. Partner takes the bidding from here. He could PASS if weak or go to slam if strong.
Case 2:
Spades AQxx
Hearts xxx
Diamonds x
Clubs Kxxxx
Case 2: Your left hand opponent opens One Spade. Your partner overcalls 2NT. Partner is showing five-five in both minors, the two lowest unbid suits. You are happy to then bid Three Clubs. You are not strong enough to go further. Let partner go further if he wishes.
Case 3:
Spades void
Hearts xxx
Diamonds KQxxx
Clubs AKxxx
Case 3: Your left hand opponent opens One Heart. Your partner PASSES and your right-hand opponent also PASSES. You must now choose your bid. You know partner is weak but he may have support for one of your minors. You do not want to give the bid to your opponent for One Heart so with your big hand, bid 2NT and let your partner pick the best minor for a part score.
