New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) launched its 22nd annual Deep Wireless Festival of Radio and Transmission Art on the theme Remote Connections with exhibitions, performances, artist talks, an online compilation and radio programs being transmitted from and hosted at the NAISA North Media Arts Centre in South River.
It was launched in February and the theme continues until April 3, 2023. Admission is by donation for in-person exhibition, $12 admission for performances, and free for Round Table Discussion and NAISA Radio.
“Radio over its history has built societal connections across multiple and remote locations. Radio Art evolved by way of artists and writers across many disciplines adding their diverse approaches to the way time, space and content could be re-imagined over the airwaves and later over digital streaming formats. The content in this year’s festival adds to that tradition with stories told through digital interactivity, round table discussions, documentaries, interactive art, poetry, and sound art on the theme Remote Connections,” according to Darren Copeland, Artistic Director, New Adventures in Sound Art.
New Adventures in Sound Art broadcasts radio art and experimental sound art 24/7 on its online audio stream NAISA Radio. Featured this year from 1-3 pm every Saturday are radio art works from around the world curated on the theme of Remote Connections. The July 2021 issue of the Wire Magazine (UK) featured NAISA Radio as one of 100 essential online radio stations, a distinction shared by only one other online radio station in Canada.
New Adventures in Sound Art is a non-profit media art organization in South River Ontario that is funded in part by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the Department of Canadian Heritage.
NAISA North Media Arts Centre is located at 313 Hwy 124, South River, ON. More information, here.
