David Gilman Fairhurst

Dec. 8, 1939-June 8, 2025

Dave was born in Reading, in the UK. He is survived by his son Paul (Allie) and his sister-in-law Avril. He is predeceased by his siblings John, Peter, and Dorothy.

Dave was an evacuee during the Blitz, moving to Wales, where he later worked briefly as a Collier prior to joining the army. Dave served with the Royal Signals as an electronic technician in Cyprus and then went on to become an Industrial Master Electrician and supervisor in London. He and his family moved to Thornhill in 1981 to pursue better opportunities during the Thatcher years.

Moving to Huntsville more than a decade ago, he found community in his weekly meals at Family Place Restaurant and West Side Fish & Chips, plus playing cards and pool at Club 55.

Dave loved watching sports, particularly football and golf, plus reading the Guardian and playing the lotto while drinking his double-double. Paul and Allie would like to offer huge thanks to the people at Al’s Taxi for their care and kindness.
