  1. A lot of motorists… And I say a lot not all think that cyclists do not have the same rights on our road ways. If they follow the same rules as a motorist then they should be given the same privileges to use our roadways. I myself am a cyclist and have been honked at, yelled at to get off the roads all while obeying the laws. Even been forced off the road. Remember it’s a privilege to drive our roadways not your right. So motorists and cyclists should be able to share the roads with courtesy to each other as long as each uses the laws provided to us by our government.

My son was travelling southbound on Hwy 35. A female motorist travelling northbound at 90km/hr swerved to miss two dogs and hit my son throwing him 100M into a ditch. Angels were caring for him that day and only his humerus was broken where he took the mirror off the car, aside from many lacerations and soft tissue knee damage. It could have been worse. My daughter witnessed her brother getting hit by the woman. The police record reads that a man was driving and MY INSURANCE had to pay and MY INSURANCE went up. There is something very wrong with our system of policing and insurance. My son got zero compensation for pain and suffering and he was 14, not even listed on my insurance, not even driving age yet and not at fault but following the rules of the road riding between the white line and the shoulder of the road. We need paved shoulders on Hwy 35! Sincerely Lois Foster

Glad you published the details. I have been forced to stop at a green light, as a cyclist went through the red. My car has been hit in mid-intersection by a cyclist going through a stop sign. I’ve had to brake hard while driving normally along the road when a vehicle glides right through a side street stop sign in to my lane.

I hope the cyclist recovers well from their injuries here, though I’m not sorry to see a charge and such a story get publicity. There is much unpredictable behaviour from motorists, cyclists and pedestrians these days, and it is simply not safe. Some rules and procedures are in support of common sense.

It seems hard to convince people they can’t always do whatever they want and force everyone else to adjust, but a physical injury and a traffic charge will probably do the job in this case. By the way, as in my case, the motorist will probably feel bad, have to pay for repairs, and have their insurance cost raised.
