Join Community Living Huntsville in Creating a Community of Belonging Together during Community Living Month in May.
“Community Living Month celebrates and promotes inclusion for people with developmental disabilities and their families,” says Suzanne Willett, Executive Director for Community Living Huntsville. “Everyone – with and without disability – has a role in championing disability inclusion and working to build a stronger community where everyone has the opportunity to belong.”
Throughout the month, Community Living Huntsville will host various events and activities to engage, educate, and inspire. These include:
• May 1 – Shine a Light on Community Living: Experience nighttime lighting displays in Community Living’s signature blue and green at both Huntsville Civic Square and Community Living Huntsville’s administrative offices.
• May 5 – Flag Raising Celebration: Come celebrate the Town of Huntsville raising the Community Living flag in honour of Community Living Month at Huntsville Civic Square, 37 Main Street East, Huntsville, at 12:00 PM.
• May 30 – Silent Disco Dance Party: Come dance like no one is listening with a live DJ, wireless headphones, endless beats, and fun vibes at Canvas Brewing Co., at 8:00 PM. $45. Ages 16 and up. Visit bit.ly/SilentDisco2025 for info and tickets.
“Let’s celebrate the advances we have made toward belonging, while also taking further action to address ongoing challenges, such as barriers to full accessibility, growing wait lists for services, and inequitable access to housing,” says Willett. “Join us in celebrating Community Living Month and help build a stronger, more inclusive community for everyone.”
Community Living Huntsville is a not-for-profit Developmental Services organization that supports and advocates alongside more than 300 people with developmental disabilities, and their families, to live the lives they choose as respected, included, and contributing community members in North Muskoka.
Willett notes, though, that the Community Living Movement remains community-led.
“We create change when we work together, which is why I am proud to share that our organization unveiled a new vision statement earlier this year: Creating a Community of Belonging Together,” said Willett. “I invite everyone to celebrate community action on disability inclusion by joining in our Community Living Month events in May.”
Community Living Huntsville is a not-for-profit, registered charity that supports and advocates alongside more than 300 children and adults, and their families, to promote and advance meaningful choice and real inclusion for people with developmental disabilities, so people, families, and our community can thrive.
