Dreary November is just around the corner, but a bright red poppy will be seen on many lapels as Canada prepares to celebrate Remembrance Day – that bittersweet occasion when we are reminded how lucky we are to still live in a free country and how unfortunate we are that the cost of that freedom has been so high.
We will symbolically stand with our Veterans by wearing a poppy, lay wreaths at cenotaphs throughout the country to remember those who have died and say a little prayer for them and thank them for their sacrifice as we observe a moment of silence.
The poppy campaign officially starts on Friday, October 27 and raises funds to help Veterans and their families.
Huntsville councillors got a head start at their October 23 council meeting as members of the local Huntsville Royal Canadian Legion Branch 232 visited the council chamber and pinned councillors and municipal staff with a poppy.
