Inaugural Deerhurst golf tournament in support of Dara’s Fund

Deerhurst Resort is launching a Cottage Country Cup golf tournament in support of Dara’s Fund at The Muskoka Community Foundation.

There’s a new golf tournament in town, and it’s one that Deerhurst Resort hopes will benefit Olympic gold medalist, Dara Howell’s legacy fund at the Muskoka Community Foundation which supports Muskoka’s female athletes for many, many years to come.

The inaugural Cottage Country Cup golf tournament will be held at Deerhurst on August 20 and 21 with a unique format designed to welcome all players. This two-day, two-course, two-person challenge will have Men’s, Ladies’ and Mixed divisions. While the prize table will be extensive, there’s also the chance to win two 2018 Deerhurst Highlands memberships each valued at $2,800 and two Deerhurst Lakeside memberships each valued at $1400.

“We wanted to start a new golf tradition in Muskoka that was fun but also benefited our own community,” says Ryan Barry, Head Professional at the venerable Deerhurst Highlands Golf Course. “Dara’s Fund at the Muskoka Community Foundation is a perfect fit, and she is very excited about aligning with the event.”

The first day is an optional “Par 3 Shoot Out” at Deerhurst Lakeside, where each hole is played as a par 3 (players tee off at the 150 yard marker on the longer holes). This individual play format starts at 3pm and serves as a warm-up for the main event the next day. On Monday, the two-person scramble gets underway at Deerhurst Highlands at 9am, with breakfast provided beforehand, and a “Big Daddy’s” pig roast barbecue lunch, prizes and trophy presentation following . The cost is just $175/player – a good deal considering regular green fees are $150.

A variety of sponsorships levels are available and businesses have been quick to support. TaylorMade, Penalta, Aben Graphics, Big Daddy’s Meats, Boss Promotions, VersaBank and Gardiner Roberts are some of the sponsors so far.

Spots and sponsorships are still available. To inquire or register your team for the first annual Cottage Country Cup, visit the Deerhurst website or go to or call Ryan Barry at 705-789-7113 x4494.
