Community comes together to help Utterson residents after fire

A friend of the Utterson residents whose home burned down overnight on July 26 has started a fundraiser for them.

At approximately 1 am on July 16, the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Mainhood’s Road in Utterson.

Two occupants and a dog were evacuated. One of the occupants, Steve, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Sunnybrook Hospital.

Their friend, Katie LeMay, started a fundraiser for them on Wednesday. By Thursday evening, the GoFundMe had managed to raise almost $6,000.

“As many of you have possibly heard, Steve and Alyssa lost everything in a housefire last night. Although they both made it out, Steve is in Sunnybrook Hospital with severe burns. Both Steve and Alyssa are the type of people to help you out if you need it, so now it’s our turn to help them out,” she said.

“There will be a lot of costs with travelling back and forth from Toronto, immediate necessities, and rebuilding their lives. Please consider donating if you can, or even sharing this link so that we can help them. Any help is greatly appreciated,” she added.

You can access the GoFundMe page, HERE.

Their home was burned to the ground. Damages as a result of the fire are estimated at $700,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
